On Friday 18th November, selected girls from Years 3 to 6 competed in the Hall Schools Cross Country Tournament at Wandsworth Common. The girls were very excited to compete and were focused on the day ahead, especially after an eventful Book Day! The Year 3 and 4 event consisted of a 450m run around Queensmere Pond and the Year 5 and 6 girls ran a 650m course. Each team and year group had 5 runners who each ran one lap of the course before handing the baton over to the final runner. Old Vicarage ran with determination and gave 100%. The results were as follows:
Year 3 finished 12th
Year 4 finished 6th
Year 5 finished 5th
Year 6 finished 11th
Overall, Old Vicarage were placed 8th out of 12 schools. Well done to all the girls who took part.
We selected 9 girls from Year 4 to play in their first netball tournament on Wednesday 23rd November. They played well as a team and played 8 games in total during the course of the afternoon. The girls defended so well that 2 of the games remained 0 - 0. We won 2 of our games against Ursuline and the Hall School and Old Vicarage ended up playing for the plate.
Well done to all girls who put in 100%. The player of the match was awarded to Amelie H (4T) who was presented with a medal during the presentations at the end of the day.
On Thursday 24th November the 6A and 6B team played their final netball match of the season against Harrodian School. The pace of the 6A match was fast with the score only 3 -1 at half time to Harrodian. Some fantastic defence prevented Harrodian from scoring many goals and the centre court players and shooters found good space with accurate strong passes. The final score was 5 -1 to Harrodian with the player of the match Lili G. The 6B team had a stronger second half of the match with some good defence. Harrodian won the match and our player of the match was Tess P.
Well done girls for your efforts this term in netball and look forward to the hockey season in the spring term.
On Thursday 17th November the Year 5 netball tournament team played some outstanding netball. I can honestly say that every girl played with consistency, commitment and brilliant sportsmanship throughout the day. For the first time the team made the championship cup rounds and came 5th out of 12 schools. There was amazing defence and attacking play, with the players of the tournament going to Caroline M (5L) and Ella A (5TM) and the Players Player award going to Phoebe W (5TM).
Well done girls!
On Friday 11th November the Year 6 tournament team played 7 tough matches against some new competitors we have not played netball against before.
The girls played as a strong team who displayed such good sportsmanship throughout the tournament. The girls moved the ball down the court with accuracy and the right amount of speed. We fought hard until the last match with the final result of 4 losses, 1 draw and 2 wins. The match of the day was against Wimbledon High where we won 1-0 although Wimbledon ended up winning the whole tournament!
Well done to every girl on the team, and the player of the match was Isla-Rose D for her fantastic centre court play and Tamsin M for her strong defensive play.
On Tuesday 15th November, Year 4 played fantastic netball against Harrodian School. There were 3 teams playing, with each game playing two 15 minute halves with such close results.
The ball moved down the court with accurate passing and in the first half of the 4A match OVS were ahead by 2 goals. We had the majority of possession of the ball in the second half, but did not convert any, so the final score was 3-2 to Harrodian. The 4B and 4C teams also had a very tight match with 0-0 at half time and OVS scoring a point in each game, making the final score 1-0 to OVS in the 4B and 4C games.
Fantastic result and well done to all those who played!
On Thursday 3rd November the Year 5A and 6A netball teams had a very wet match against Ursuline School. The girls endured the pouring rain to play a very entertaining game. Their passing and attacking skills were a credit to all the girls hard work during lessons and netball club. Well done to the 6A team who had possession of the ball the majority of the match but unfortunately did not convert any goals. The final score was 2 - 0 to Ursuline. The 5A team played a superb match with excellent attacking play and fantastic shooting by Ella A and Maddie L. The final score for the 5A match was 6 - 0 to The Old Vicarage School! Well done girls.
YR 3 v HURLINGHAM LOSS 3 – 0
On Monday 11th October, the Year 3 girls had their very first netball match of the season. With the windy conditions and pre-game nerves, the 3 teams showed the skills they had learnt over the last half term. The red team had a close match with the final score 3-0 to Hurlingham. In goal defence, Thea C (3W) made excellent intercepts and was player of the match.
The blue and green teams kept up a strong fight, but lost to Hurlingham 3-0 and 6-0. Some wonderful attempts at goal by Cameron B (3W) on the blue team did not go unnoticed! The player of the match for the blue team was Jemima K (3W) who made excellent use of the space and from the Green team, Georgia M and Beatrice B (both from 3Y). Well done, girls.
YR 6A v HURLINGHAM LOSS 2 - 0
What a game! Fantastic attacking play and defending from all of the girls on the team. They all showed what they had been working on in games and the ball was moving from one end of the court to the other. By half time, Hurlingham were in the lead 1 - 0. The girls were not dishartened by the score line and went out in the second half to continue with their high standard of game play and were determined to play their best. Hurlingham were suprised by the continued enthusiam of our girls in the second half with Charlotte B and Juliet F having 3 attempts at goal. Unfortunately, we were unable to convert the goals and Hurlingham managed to score another. Player of the match was awarded to Tamsin M for her defensive play.
YR 6B v HURLINGHAM WIN 4 - 3
With the wind picking up speed, the girls were quite concerned about the game, but went out with drive and determination to show the girls from Hurlingham what skills they had. From the first whistle, OVS had control of the game and were passing the ball into space. The ball moved quickly and easily down the court, with Alice G and Olivia K working very well in the shooting circle. All of the players’ hard work was soon rewarded with a goal and by half time OVS was still leading 2-1. After a quick half time and some changes on court, the girls continued the second half as they had in the first. Hurlingham continue to fight back and pulled the score to 2-2. OVS responded with another goal which was repeated by Hurlingham. With only 2 minutes to go, OVS scored again and won the match 4 - 3. Players of the match went to Olivia K and Alice G for their amazing work in the shooting circle.
YR 5 & YR6 v SURBITON - TEAMS 1 & 2
After a delay in starting the games the teams (made up of a mixture of both Year 5 and 6 players) began very tentatively after the downpour. The courts were very slippy but both teams took their time and found space away from their defenders with ease. Both teams were competitive but the OVS girls had the edge from the start of the match. All of the girls were a credit to the school not only in the way that they played and showed their skills but in their sportsmanship off of the court once the games were finished. Well played to all of the girls and sorry to those in Teams 3 - 5 whose games had to be cancelled due to timing.
Team 1 v Surbiton A WIN 3 - 0 Player of the Match was Maddie L (5TM)
Team 2 v Surbiton B WIN 5 - 0 Player of the match was Tess P (6S)
5A
The girls began the game with some nerves but these soon settled and both the attack and defense were working very well. At half time both the teams had scored one goal each. After half time the girls continued to play really well but with a last minute goal, Holy Cross won 2 -1. Player of the match was Ella A (5TM).
5B
From the first whistle the girls put in 100%. Defensively the girls played very well but unfortunately were unable to convert the goals. At half time Holy Cross were in the lead 2 – 0. Despite this, the girls worked very hard in the second half to pull the score back but Holy Cross finished the game 4 – 0. Player of the match went to Ella B (5L).
5C
The 5C team started the match well and we lost count of the number of interceptions that the girls made. They did well at finding space but were unable to convert any goals. At half time Holy Cross were leading 1 – 0 and the second half of the game mirrored the first. The final score was 2 – 0 to Holy Cross. Player of the match was Anastassia K (5TM).
YR 6A V HOLY CROSS
The game started very well with both teams scoring 1 goal up to half time. The ball was moving well down the court. After half time Holy Cross started to pull ahead and the final score was 7 – 2 to Holy Cross. The girls all played brilliantly and should be proud of themselves. Player of the match went to Jo Jo C (6S).
