Great attention is paid to all aspects of using the English language. By the age of 11 we expect our girls to read fluently and avidly, reading for pleasure in addition to gathering information and developing research skills.

Our library has a wonderfully calm yet studious ambience. It is extremely well stocked with fiction and non-fiction books for all ages as well as audio tapes, CD’s and a computer linked to the internet. The girls use the library for structured sessions as well as in their own time.
The girls are taught to write freely and speak clearly and expressively. Correct spelling, punctuation and grammar are seen as the essential tools. They study a wide range of texts, including fiction and non-fiction, and their speaking and listening skills are further developed in assemblies, drama lessons and through working for the English Speaking board exams.
The other core subjects on the Old Vicarage curriculum are Mathematics, Science, ICT, History, Geography, Religious Education, French, Art and Design Technology along with library studies.
